The Sage 99 rods are serious nymphing rods. For those of you who are into Czech, French, Polish, high stick nymphing and the like, you NEED this rod. It is designed to provide great turnover for those type of rigs. They put a lot of thought into this while designing the rods. If you are turning over a brace for flies, or a multiple fly rig with weight flies, perhaps an indicator, and a bit of weight, you do not want to produce a tight loop. This would result in tangles, birds nests and all sorts of trouble. You want an open loop that turns over with ease. That is why this rod has a fast butt section, soft middle, and relatively fast tip. This allows for open loops, plenty of power to fight fish, and a fast hook set. It is a whole new way of thinking and designing rods. This was made to hook and catch fish the way we actually fish! Fresh thinking and outside the box design. The 7 weight is taylor made for great lakes steelhead. We use them as our guide rods, and for good reason! The less time we have to untangle leaders, and the more fish on the bank, the better the day is for everyone! The 5 is our favorite for trout, as it will fish both Czech style and indicator setups well.
